Depends on what your definition of "half decent" is.

If you buy the cleric a poison wind censer and a haste item and a bunch of +str and +ac gear, you will do great damage compared to a typical cleric with a +wis 1h and a shield without a haste item who is wearing +wis and+mp gear. You could prolly use root and stuns to keep aggro and still be able to lull for ok pulls, heal after fights, etc.

This setup would really make you a more of a tank than a damage dealer though. Without double attack or high melee skill caps, true melee classes will just blow past you in terms of damage ouptut by the time you get up to 40, even if they aren't as twinked as you are. And while it would work decently for 30-40 levels, as you get higher you are going to be worse and worse off, since you are not taking advantage of the strength of your class (which would be being the most powerful healer in the game and maintaining with constant meditation).

This is basically the method that twinked shamans use to level. Good 2hb, good haste item, lots of str and lots of ac. The thing is that shamans get stat buffs, haste, slow, regens, cannibalize, a pet, and (probably) better base stats for doing this. And those things add a lot more to being a "battle" something than ac and hp buffs, stuns and heals do. And even then, once they get up to higher levels they are better off using roots and dots and medding while those kill enemies.

If you are someone with a bunch of cash sitting around and this will entertain you for 40 levels, then go for it. If you are someone who is more set on the concept of battle cleric than on being an actual battle CLERIC, then consider a paladin instead.
