So your telling me a caster in cloth would stand a chance against a 200+ MR melee? It's also not like you can just roll out in pve gear and own everyone. You need the right set of gear for pvp to even stand a chance to anyone unless it's like pvp below level 40. In wow any pvp under the max level gear doesn't matter much also. So yes anything BUT endgame pvp gear doesn't mean anything at all.
EDIT:
Also just the fact that a melee needs high MR to stand a chance to any caster makes endgame pvp very gear dependent. Being rooted and snared every 5sec isn't what I call fair pvp so now I need to farm up MR so I can even get a hit in.

Casters have to use what they can to their advantage. You usually want to be able to at least start casting your spells while you aren't being hit. The chance of breaking casting is pretty low (5% chance to push per hit and channeling still recovers), especially if your melee opponent is wielding a 2h or doesn't have spell haste. Casters can always outdps a melee if they are getting their spells off. You have to use your environment, stand in the right places like corners or elevated areas using levitate. Also, casters have even more chances on red as with a full set of mr gear, you still get rooted once in a while. Hopefully Null will come to understand that a good caster that uses the tactics above doesn't need to land roots on an melee who sacrificed all their dps (50-100 str) to boost their MR to 120.
Beyond that, you just have to know the limitations of your class. If you are outdoors, a melee that gets jumped by a caster is at a disadvantage. Indoors, its vice versa.
