Spoken like a true child of privilege. If you don't have experience with poverty and ignorance, you should probably shut the fuck up or expose yourself as ignorant and entitled.
Poverty persists from generation to generation. What that means is that these kids eating rats are going to grow up with below average brain and body development. They're not going to do very well in school. They're going to have trouble with things you take for granted, things like filling out a job application, getting a credit card, or even finding government programs to help them.
That will leave them with simple pleasures, such as eating too much fatty food, drinking alcohol and taking drugs, watching tv, playing video games, and having sex. They'll be much like their parents--poor and ignorant.
Do you honestly think their parents chose to work for minimum wage and make bad choices about contraception?
Congratulations on winning the birth lottery. Enjoy your life of ease and comfort. Don't for one minute convince yourself that you did anything to deserve it. You were born in a wealthy country and were hand an education. More than a billion people will go to bed hungry tonight. They have no idea how to better their lives and, for most of them, even if they had a well-developed and education intellect, they have no opportunity to do so.
