Played for months in beta, then for about 1-2 months after release.

It has a great foundation for a good game, but I personally believe the devs don't understand what it will takes to draw people to the game and make pvp meaningful. The answer to that question is in fighting over progression.

Like I've said a hundred times on dozens of mmo forums - a game needs good pve for it to have good pvp. It needs to be fun in its own rite, for pvp to be worthwhile and meaningful. The game needs progressive pve, itemization and long term guild goals, all of which should be hard to achieve and require the acquisition of rare crafting items from mobs and the environment in dangerous (pve/pvp) areas. I've played just about every pvp mmo ever, and regardless of how great the pvp was, unless you have something meaningful to fight over (pve), pvp means almost nothing. Thats why Mortal pvp is so boring.

That said, I have been watching it and the next patch ("expansion", pff) looks promising.
