As things stand, just about everyone knows a few players who cheat or a few accounts that were RMT'd, but nobody really hears about anyone ever being banned. That creates the impression that cheating is widespread and punishment is non-existent.

Yes, they do. They just refuse to recognize/believe it when we say it. We have consistently said we ban players. You know what impression would be created if we did publish a list of banned players? Unfortunately, it would be something like favoritism. Person A and B were banned, but person C wasn't! What is this, corrupt corrupt etc. This already happens.

And I don't really understand the calls for legitimate reports, either. Just as an example, Richgirl is clearly Plat Lord. Uthgaard has confirmed this
|
Confirmed is a bit too strong of a word. Uthgaard was in a position for a long time where he could have banned and did ban many players. If there was incontrovertible proof, then it would be handled the same as anyone else. Perhaps it's being handled now? If you have additional evidence, petition it.

In fact, it just sold a Pre-nerf Fungi Staff for 800k. That's not a transaction that should be difficult to track; that platinum shouldn't be difficult to remove. And if there was no such transaction, it shouldn't be hard to find a list of pre-nerf Fungi Staffs that were traded in the past two weeks.
|
This indicates that any high platinum trade is RMT. That simply isn't the case. If it was sold for money, it would be an illegal transaction.

If RMT were a priority of server staff, cutting the head off the snake (Plat Lord) would be a really good way to get started. Instead, these deals are going down on p99's very own forums.

While it isn't my #1 priority, I consistently help write and run queries with the goal of finding illegal transactions. Before someone blows up and says it should be my #1 priority, no it should not. My priority is the recreation of classic everquest. In fact, anything that isn't a bug report completely detracts from this goal. It IS worked on though. <- This is where you should believe me. If you don't, there's little I could say that will change your mind.
And btw, I'm tired of hearing and seeing everything about RMT and platinum and character sales. You might soon see a complete abolishment of any character sales for platinum on the forums. It might happen elsewhere, but whatever, I've always said I frowned upon it anyway.

It's not so much that RMT happens that is fueling this new anti-RMT sentiment. It's that it's happening in plain sight. EVERYONE knows that IB's guildbank was RMT'd, and that many of their core members are cutting their loot/chars and RMT'ing them. Hell, this is the kind of thing that former IB members will confirm for you. We're not talking about a set of fine steel weapons and 400 platinum changing hands. We're talking about transfers of rare god/dragon loot and hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of platinum at a time.

If there is proof of this, submit it. Submit to me personally if you'd like. If someone has this proof in a petition, screenshots, logs, paypal logs and conversations, and we do NOT act on it, there would likely be rants and flames indicating how we suck, with that information attached. There's a reason you never see something like that though.. and its because we do act on information when it's given to us. :P
Like the RMT discussion the other day, which happened in the public arena... Evidence was submitted and it was handled. Because it happened in public, there was a huge outcry about how we don't do shit. Just because the public doesn't see a head on a spike doesn't mean anything. That is merely ONE instance of what happens when the public gets ahold of information.
