First of all Harrison has no clue. I have been playing EvE on and off since 2004 and i have pretty much done everything PvP wise. Just with the expierence i have by playing i can create a 9 hours old char jump into a Rifter and win 8 of 10 fights and escape the other two.
However i found most fun in trapping Missionrunners in High-Sec blowing their stuff out of the sky because even 2 years old blue chars dont even know how Aggro-timers work, the tears are delicious.
I had way more fun in low sec than in 0.0. Big blops fights become dull after a while and not many care that much about null sec politics anymore. Low-sec is still pretty intense. If you ever have a chance, but please be ready first, join a Corp that goes into lvl 4 wormholes ( dont mind lvl 5 the PvP is just like in null sec). You will make a buttload of money and you and your corps are pretty much in a do or die situation.
Another great option join a mercenary corp and wardec trade corps of big null sec alliances in high-sec...there is a bunch of money and tears to get from there.
However while you are still testing and doing stuff, start working on your faction with an Locater Agent, get him to lvl 5 asap. There is nothing better to have a way to find out where somebody is who screwed you over, suprise him with a paladin ship and blow his sorry ass out of a Tier 3 Loki, knowing he just lost alot of money and 4 weeks of skills (true story).
Eve-Online is like UO in Space during good old Felucca time, PC Action named it the mmo of the century and it is content and sandbox wise a masterpiece and now it even looks stunning.
However my young capsuleer it will eat your soul and you pretty much wont be playing anything else but EvE. Thats the reason i stopped i missed a bunch of games and some social activities BUT i made some great friends and who knows maybe ill come back.
It is a great game you either love it or hate there is nothing in between...the game industry loves it but they know it would be too hard to even try to copy it.
Have fun in New Eden, fly safe
