I was trying to start the Shaman epic quest chain by killing Peg Leg in Butcherblock Mountains. According to the Wiki guide, killing him should spawn a lesser spirit which will begin the quest. Unfortunately nothing happens when Peg Leg is killed.

I noticed the same thing. You can get the spirit to spawn from the captain in OoT on p99 though.
