In the firearms community, a lot of people refer to unintentionally shooting a gun as an "accidental discharge" (Like, they stumbled and their finger accidentally pulled the trigger and they shot themselves in the foot.) What it really is, however, is a negligent discharge (they were neglecting one or more rules of firearm safety).
That's what happened here. Not an accidental giving, a negligent giving.
