May not be "classic", but there is a better solution to this problem.
I propose we have every new character start as part of a guild. That way every player, until they decide to leave the guild can talk in guild chat to be able to form groups. Those players who already have friends or guilds to join, can simply guildremove themselves after creating their character if they so choose.
Blam, no broadcasted spam or trash talking, just a simple way for new players to find people who want to group.

i had this idea last nite. I actually logged on and petitioned to make a guild called Zerg in which I would invite anything that moved. Also thought about naming guild Global OOC, alas petition not answered and back to the forums I crawled to.
