I'm using 1920x1080 with no problem. On my vista laptop I have a weird problem where clicking near the edges of the screen clicks through to the desktop for some reason

Once you are in-game in fullscreen mode open up options and video modes, reset your video mode to its current mode, it will refresh the screen, hit yes to accept the resolution. ( you shouldn't have to make any changes just open up click and accept )
This fixes the problem for me, I have to do it any time I Alt-Tab or crash.
