When one person wrongs another, how they react in the face of justice determines whether or not they're worth any mercy. Those who lie or connive or retaliate only show that they will continue wronging others given every opportunity. When someone makes a sincere apology, it's only prudent to give them an opportunity to redeem themselves.
That's not to say that person is a good person, or that anyone would blame the average player for continuing to hate, mistrust or insult them. I stand up for what I believe in, and I use every resource at my disposal to help "guide" others to do the right thing as well, by force if necessary. But don't confuse spite for a part of who I am.
Good guys only finish last when they're too weak to do a few necessary evils to get results.
