Melees are supposed to suck in classic and be reliant upon groups to set up kills. I will be playing a melee eventually and advocate for more strict death penalty. Dying in and of itself is not a penalty - you need to lose something. Nvm, trying to argue with ultra-carebear.

What was abused and not reported? The only thing I know of was mage swords, and that wasn't widespread. Wands were reported. Recharing was reported.
