I believe dots did the same thing if you were outta agro range. I guess pets did draw agro.

In the early days of RZ I know mage pets did not get any agro from guards. I remember getting murdered next to a guard and not knowing why he wouldn't assist. So after that I made a mage. I'm not sure how long it went on until they changed it.
