I thought this timeline was pretty interesting.

It shows epics being introduced after Velious came out, but right before 2001 (ie, within the 25 day period between velious and 2001).

sorry, my bad. I think it's sad that they couldn't get their own timeline right. It clearly shows epics being released after Velious in that timeline image (link above), yet patch notes prove that Epics were released on September 19th and Velious was released on December 6th.
