I know how many independent truckers went without work that day because I was there with a large group of independent truckers who supported occupy because they have been getting treated like shit for hella years and not allowed to unionize under certain conditions when doing certain kinds of jobs. There were two large factions of independent truckers at the ports, and by far the most numerous were in the picket lines marching. I really do feel bad for everyone that didn't work that needed to, but there are a number of reasons why I and many other people feel that the actions were more important - not the least of which is the fact that all it really amounted to for the vast majority of the independent workers (as they put it directly to me and people in my immediate area, because some came out to debate with us) was an adjustment of their day off and the gas money they spent in that immediate time span. So spare me your crocodile tears.
