Do you use wireless? Use a wired connection if possible.
Do you use wineq2.0? I highly recommend it if you do not. It includes eqplaynice as a feature and seems to stop most zone disconnects.
Free one works fine, and indefinitely.

After installing, you can make your windowed mode fullscreen by looking in eqclient.ini for

and changing your resolution settings to match your monitor. Mine is 1920x1080.
