I've only ever played eq classic, never an emu server so I can only speak for my experience with servers '99-00 ish.
That said, I remember seeking players out being one of the most fun things about the game. Hanging out in the EC tunnel looking at everyone that was better than me. If red is a big cluster of people shying away from each other... I'm wondering if it'll be that fun.
It's like the part in harry potter where the death eaters have taken over the ministry of magic and diagon alley is all dark and shit, no one wants to buy magic shit anymore and everyone is running around in small groups hoping they dont get fucked by voldemort.

I can't connect with you on the Harry Potter reference but it is for sure a different game then a blue server. You form alliances and your reputation sticks. You have to trust people and look out for enemies. With such a big exp penalty being pked sucks. It is a lot harder but also a lot more rewarding. Also it is never boring, I often get bored on blue servers with nothing to really do.
