LOL we have a guy who does stupid shit like that. Or he will find "rack mounting equipment" on the cheap somewhere and be like OMG guise I totally saved us 125$ on this 12 thousand dollar server (this happened before I worked there). Shelves that are only bolted in on the front of the rack and are just sitting on some pegs in the back... so they could get jostled and drop a server at any time lol...
Of course this is the same person I have to argue with about purchasing warranties... "OMG must we spend 500$ extra for 3 years?!" "Uhh you do realize that each hard drive in this server costs 800$ right?" "But...."
I guess IT people do need someone to keep them from spending 8 trillion on shiny things but srsly!! lol

It's kind of wierd rails are coming up a lot these days, the data centre we're putting the servers in have different rails than ours, some kind of reversable slide in/adjustable stuff.
Heh, $800/drive is nothing, I just got quoted $32/gb for new fibre channel SATA disk for our SAN
