Instead of a Testament of Vanear I personally prefer a Charred Guardian Shield at least untill Kunark comes out. It's super cheap, doesn't require a long quest and you get 10 AC in exchange for 1 wisdom.
Also, a platemale wearing character should be holding a mace and a shield... not a book and a doll. I'm all about proper EQ aesthetics.
