I have alternated between root nuking and shield of thistles. When everything works I've killed yellows. Seems like last night my first nuke would break the root and then they would be on me and health would disapear really fast.
The shield of thistles method was working well at level 9 but it seems like I'm actually being missed too much at level 10 for it to work, but when they do hit its max damage. THe shield wares off before the mob dies.
The fact was just a real bad night of luck and I was getting stressed out for it. Sorry for the drama and complaining.

Either root/dot or snare/DD. Direct damage spells are more likely to break your roots.
Grab a SoW and clarity first though.
