Okay when you died, you could see your body laid out. For a couple of seconds.. sometimes with npcs still running against it.
(I think?) this was also the case for bleeding to death. It would show your body like you were dead, but say 'you're bleeding to death', and you would have a purple bar. If you regained enough hp to not be purple, it would switch back to first person view.

this is all true
i remember that purple bar being a couple hp bigger on classic though, would frequently get back up in low levels when the NPCs hit softer but i aint whinin
