I just think it was kind of a dick move to remove DE mask all of a sudden when the server started gaining people, especially when it didn't follow the timeline

They gave like a 3 week warning - at least. I was shocked they even gave a warning. I'm pretty sure it didn't follow the timeline because they actually fudged the removals in the direction of extension because of the understanding of how important those things are to people. And for their mission statement being to follow classic as closely as they can.. damn, that's nice of 'em.
Like the case of the OP, the world does not revolve around you. Sorry! If you realized the world didn't revolve around you in time, maybe you'd have checked the patch notes and read the warning given just about a month in advance of its removal.
