How is chrono trigger not overrated?
None of the characters are very well developed or even engaging, there's little subtlety in the game and all of the side quests and encounters are completely spelled out for you with no room left for the player to figure things out on their own. In other RPG's in its era you actually had to think for more than 2 seconds to get by some of the more difficult parts in the game, whereas Chrono Trigger was generally way too easy. I also didn't feel the time travel element of the game was handled very well (I remember some chests where if you opened them in the past, you could still open them in the future for example... I know it's small but it's still kind of lame and makes the game less immersive).
I did really like that one world with the really advanced civilization that I think was around ~15000 BCE or something. That's probably one of my favorite parts of any RPG. The rest of the game seemed a lot less inspired though.

I've never thought of Chrono Trigger being rated so high in the first place. From everything I've ever seen/heard about the game, it's just a 'great game'. Anything less and it would be just a "meh, game" which hardly comes to mind when I think of Chrono Trigger.
Could be slightly overrated, but that could describe any game.
