He was a genius and a moron at the same time. His business model was great, knew who to target, etc. and his products were solid and reliable, but like said above, shiny overpriced propriety-based(until recently) bullshit. I think he held himself back by not conforming until it was too late with popular industry standards.
I grew up using apples and macs and I didn't even know wtf the difference between a PC and the others were yet. I wish I had grown up a few years earlier so I could have been there for all of it at a better age. My first computer was an IBM x86 which I think had 16mb of ram tops? I played Zork, Doom, various AD&D games, and other ancients on floppy and those are some of my fondest memories of growing up for me. Learning how to use DOS was what led me to go into programming, too. I would shit a brick if I saw what would come of computing back then.
