Kinda. Like you said it depends on the place.
A knight class with the right gear can tank & spank blue cons for exp easily. Velks for example was a joke even without fearing mobs.
Inny's Curse is pretty awesome for duels, solo, and raids as it keeps your hps topped decent with vampiric embrace cooking. There are plenty of close to 1/1 ratio weapons that do just as good though. Still fear or aggro kiting for a SK make more sense.
A Pally has it much easier conventional plan. A root and Celestial Cleansing is very efficient on mana in tight quarters compared to 226 hp lifetaps and a couple dots. Plus a pally can fight stationary caster mobs and shut them down with stuns.
