My
opinion;
1st pic has alot of issues, first of all the umbrella is very distracting even with selective focus it is very noticeable (probably a result of the contrast of no color (the flower) to orange (the umbrella). The cactus is the subject and therefore should be larger (i.e. take up more space in the photo).

2nd pic is better, proper use of selective focus and the umbrella is hardly noticeable. The subject is in the rule of thirds. Much more detailed image of the subject although I would've like to have seen more of it (you cut it off the top, which could have just been a poor choice of crop) But overall not bad.
