I played a Troll Shadowknight of Innoruk in EQ beta and classic and I do recall having one hell of a time being killed just everywhere (and I mean by NPCs even though this was on Rallos Zek...).
Just to make sure I was remembering right, and to make a point at how RACE is the biggest faction modifier in old world cities, I just created a troll SK of Innoruk and ran him to Oggock on Al'kabor server.
Troll Shadowknight of Innoruk:

Soonog (Ogre SK trainer) = dubious (can't train you)
Guntrik (Ogre warrior GM = threateningly
Chef Dooga = dubious
Clurg = dubious
Fuga (shaman faction) = threateningly
I also recall something killing me deep in Neriak 3rd gate as a noob back in the day too, I suppose I can recheck, but I just wanted to show a point.
That my friends, is how hardcore it was to be a troll SK back in the day. Iksar have it even worse of course. I know faction is very tricky to get right, but hopefully the devs keep working on it (though it would be 10000 times easier to get Hobart to send you a file with the global faction data on it...).
Is your troll SK safe all over Oggock?
