This story seems weird, you should make sure that is your issue. I can't imagine how a system board would get fried by a fan going out. You're going to get a new mobo and probably realize your cpu is what was fried but even that dying because of a heatsink fan is a long shot if it's idle the temps are pretty low (or should be).

Question, do you use any kind of power protection? aka a good quality surge protector? If you can't even post it's probably you're PSU.


Also @SwordNBoard Asus sabretooth boards have a spot to mount a 50mm fan right on the board.
