A law was recently passed in New Mexico (Or maybe just Albuquerque?) saying that cyclists have to follow the same laws vehicles do. State regulated stops, dedicated lanes, etc. I have known people to actually get ticketed for running a red light on a bike in an empty intersection.
i really dont mind this since it legitimizes bike travel and the cyclist's right as a vehicle to be on the road. A lot of Americans just don't think you should even be on a bike, even when you're doing something harmless like riding down the shoulder of a highway with only thru-traffic. Either it costs $300/mo to have and maintain or it's a kid's toy.
