Oh shit, and I forgot, another thing only 1 person has mentioned: take riding classes. Most riding classes are really shitty, but there are some fantastic riding schools out there.

I don't know about other states, but a motorcycle class is required to obtain a motorcycle license, which you need to ride anything above 49ccs in New Mexico.
