True. Inglewood, Compton, etc are shit. So is east LA.
I lived in Beverly Hills for a while and the snobbishness there is unparalleled. I couldn't stand it. I felt like I was surrounded by Barbie and Ken dolls, and my apartment/area was straight out of a television drama.
A MILF married to a loser-with-lots-of-money wanted to fuck me / got lonely/bored constantly while he was working / etc. Every time I walked out to go get coffee or whatever, she'd be on the porch drinking wine or smoking a joint wearing next to nothing. The blonde starbucks employee was always visibly coked/doped up. Girl living in apartment next to me was a model and ended up killing herself after her boyfriend dumped her (I saw her around no less than six hours before she did this). I woke up to a fireman in a gas mask looming over me telling me to get the fuck out because there was cyanide in the building.
tldr: stay closer to the coast if living in LA / west side [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]
Everyone I know from SF has nothing but good to say about it. Some have this weird hatred/bigotry of the LA area though (IT'S FULL OF PHONIES, MAN *reads Catcher In The Rye, listens to Death Cab*). Don't be that guy.

pretty close to my experience living in echo park, except it's a hipster ghetto with cholos that still hang around for some reason, and all of the problems that go along with that.
you can count on LA for having a lot of weirdos too. i found this guy in little tokyo around feb looking for someone to shoot with his arrow of love.
