EQL perfectly encapsulates playing EQ exactly the same as regular eq, if you box 2 other characters tho.
I really WISH this was the case. That is what I was hoping the game would be like. But it's actually a much different and much easier and dumb-downed version of the game. That's not to say it still can't be fun, though. And if I decide to play I'm sure I'll have fun with it, at least for awhile. But it doesn't seem like the sort of game that can hold one's attention for years the way EQ (and P1999) did.

This is every version of EQ. I don't see how you can argue differently. That's what the game is. Now you can do it solo, casually, instead of relying on investing more time than most adults have without having to have 3+ clients running at the same time.
Like BradZax above, I think you will be confused and somewhat disappointed if you expect EQL to play simply like a triple-boxing optimized version of EQ. Because it is decidedly different than that. The game is much, much easier. You have people soloing dragons at level 40, for God's sake. In EQL, a Cloak of Flames is literally easier to acquire than an FBSS. And all of Inny's race-specific loot, which are OP items by design since they are meant to be limited to one item per character, in EQL are not race-restricted. So most characters will be running around wearing everything on Inny's loot table. It gets pretty silly very quickly and the loot is acquired so easily it feels meaningless. Oh, and don't forget there is literally zero economy to the game. No buying and selling anything of note. In short, the game is VERY different. In no way is it a boxing-simulator version of classic EQ.

My point about class variability creating distinct gameplay stands. The reality is that probably over 95% of the combinations in EQL will play pretty much the same regardless of which three classes you pick: you will face tank mobs, meleeing and casting nukes or DoTs, and cast heals/slow as necessary. For whatever reason a lot of people don't seem to understand this fact or are in denial about it. But give it a few months after release and you'll be hearing it from a lot of people who walk away from the game. Because unlike traditional EQ, you can't level alts that provide totally different gameplay loops. In EQL, every effective combination will ultimately feel very similar, and they all even share the same gear. So after leveling a few combos, and discovering that they are basically just engaging in the exact same gameplay loop they already played before, I think many people will have had their fill and move on.
