Okay! I should have a possible fix for you coming out! It was defaulting to wined3d but theres a few alternatives to that backend, and now theres an optional "performance patch" you can apple (changes the wine wrapper settings to target other backends) - it also applies some disabling of antialiasing features which arent as much an issue on these older games on modern hardware, but cost a lot of extra compute in the translation layer!
Before your reply, I also revamped some of the map drawing logic on the parser, but thats unrelated - but was also an issue!
