Nope I never imagined you as a herpetologist. Gnarly.

How's your training?

Lately a lot of hiking. In order to get a workout nowadays I have to do what I call a “circuit” hike: which is up to the summit up one trail, then down a different trail to the base of the mountain on the other side. There I have to refill my 2 large water bottles. If for some reason the fountain at the other trailhead was out of order, I would have to take an uber back to my truck because it would be very dangerous to hike back up and down. Without being able to do a refill, in the summer I would have to carry at least 1.5 gallons on my back to be safe. Which I COULD do, but it’s easier to take less and refill it. Luckily that’s never happened where the fountain is out. Unluckily, the fountain water tastes like a mix of granite, gasoline, and human shit….and I’m pretty sure is giving me cancer

Then it’s back to the summit again up the other trail, and back down again on the original trail to my truck. Takes about 2.15ish hours if I jog all the straightaways. Also is around 100-105 degrees for the second half. The second go up is the hardest, the rocks radiate heat upwards. The glue on the soles of my trail runner shoes keeps dissolving from the heat, I just had to throw two old pairs away

I have to go before 8am because they close the trails to keep the tourists from accidentally killing themselves. The mountain that I hike has claimed dozens of lives, I know of 3 in the last 2 years. Hyperthermia has to be a shitty way to go. But it sucks because I’m not a morning person. I will literally roll out of bed at 7:30, race to the gas station to buy my water bottles, then get in to the trailhead parking right at 7:55am before they close the gate on me. All because some 65 year old tourists decided “hey honey, we haven’t worked out a day in the last 20 years, let’s go on a hike at 3pm when it’s 108 degrees out, what’s. The. Worst. That. Could. Happen?” 🙄

In terms of goals, I have none atm and it sucks. Before my target was a Cali beach trip in June, so I got pretty lean for that. Afterwards, I tend to overeat and now have some fat I need to lose

How about you or anyone else here? What’s crazy is the tryhard gym in Cali had 150lb dumbells. I didn’t even know that shit existed…
