Mesoscale Discussion 0658
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0716 PM CDT Wed May 06 2026

Areas affected...southern Mississippi

Concerning...Tornado Watch

Valid 070016Z - 070115Z

The severe weather threat for Tornado Watch 186 continues.

SUMMARY...Supercell with a strong tornado to persist eastward across
southern Mississippi south of US84 and will be approaching the I-55
corridor soon.

DISCUSSION...A supercell has strengthened rapidly and is currently
producing a strong tornado (estimated wind 135-180 mph) near
Meadville, MS. This storm is moving within a volatile environment of
moderate to strong MLCAPE increasing low-level SRH (around 200-250
m2/s2 from DGX to HDC). Effective STP is analyzed to the south
around 2-3. It is likely that this storm will persist downstream to
east with potential for continued strong to intense tornadoes.

MOST PROBABLE PEAK TORNADO INTENSITY...140-170 MPH
MOST PROBABLE PEAK WIND GUST...55-70 MPH
MOST PROBABLE PEAK HAIL SIZE...1.50-2.50 IN

That biggest tornado has already been on the ground for 40 minutes. Not good.
