Its more like World of Warcraft, where you grab a friend for a daily kill that you can't take down on your own but want to.
But the majority of time are focusing on checking off the boxes that you want without requiring asking for help.
As far as the why would you want to play it?
It was a really fun game to experement and play with.
Like, you would be like, "Wow this build is STRONG! I wish I had more DPS, what if I swapped this class for that class... I oh wow I'd get a magic boost... what if I combo that with the proc, oh and I did a wizard, I could add more damage with spell damage bonuses! This sounds fun!
And you play the game and experement, and then think, man i wish I was a rogue but i had duel wield flaming swords.. and cast necromancer spells... and you do that etc.
It was just fun as fuck lol
The grinding and EXP was tuned so well, like it was difficult and required EQ like thinking. But it was easy, and fun to crush through like it was world of warcraft.
If you liked the "feel" of eq... but you also enjoy other games, it just really, really hit the spot.

Now, imagine making these changes, using the IP of your own company (or with full permission) of that company. Also imagine doing it the other way and getting your anus reamed by lawyers by not getting permission and doubling down so badly that you (potentially) endangered the whole EQ Emu community (who btw supplied the software tools and framework) that your good works (admittedly, they were) were derided by everyone who hadn't cucked themselves for THJ or were clueless as the to the ramifications such a defence posed.
They had a good idea people who werent me liked, but they implimented it like a bunch of clueless child like sovereign citizens who really should have found a clue before making fools and arses of themselves.
