My suggestion is try joining an active guild, OP. Text is the language this game was designed around and a guild that uses /guildsay just for chat was a massive part of the classic appeal since it was built in an era before discord or common adoption of VoIP. You learn things by reading too without necessarily chatting, all within one's own comfort level.
They would have I believe pointed out what happened to you in-game which is by not understanding what you were doing you messed up the MQ. It's lamentable but that's classic and unless something has changed the server guides don't reimburse or entertain MQ failures.
