Things I learned with Windows 11
Other install hints that can be added to the install guide:
Install Suggestions:
- Shut off everything in Windows Defender. You can turn it back on when finished.
- Before downloading the EverQuest Titanium files, create an install folder outside of the Program Files directory. Go to Windows Defender, select Virus and Threat Protection, select Manage Settings, select Add or Remove Exclusions. Add your newly created EverQuest Titanium install folder location. This prevents Windows Defender from blocking files in the future.
- If you are unzipping files from P99 or custom UI, also add those folder locations to your exclusions too! When you unzip the files, Windows Defender will start blocking again. There are parts of Windows Defender that will turn on automatically.
- When you download the zip file, right-click, select properties, and check the bottom of the screen to make sure it is not blocked. Select "unblock" on the zip file manually.
- After you copy the P99 files to the EverQuest Titanium folder, use PowerShell to unblock all files. Go to your EverQuest Titanium folder, open it, hold Shift + right-click, and select the "Open PowerShell" option. This will automatically add the folder location to PowerShell. Type in "dir -ReCurse | Unblock-File", remove the quotations, and hit enter. There are many ways to perform this step if you search online.
- Update the eqgame.exe file to Windows XP SP2 by right-clicking, selecting properties, selecting the compatibility tab, and selecting Windows XP SP2 in the drop-down menu.
- Update the launcher.bat file in Notepad to the correct eqgame.exe directory. Right-click eqgame.exe, select copy path, open the launcher file in Notepad, replace "eqgame" with the copied pathway, and remove the quotation marks. Save.
- Now you should be to the point where the launcher gives you the wsock32.dll error. I solved this by making a shortcut of the launcher file on my desktop. You must make a shortcut, NOT a copy. Right-click the launcher, select Send To, and select Desktop Shortcut. If you make a copy, there will be an error for the GUI.XML files.
Hopefully, these help.
Now, I have no clue why the shortcut works and the launcher in the native folder does not. I am not a software expert. I just read every possible post on this forum and combined the feedback above. If you know why this may help prevent future issues.
