I'm not super keen on trying to keep the pet alive, I cruised pretty hard from 14-24 in a couple days with the standard charm kiting stuff--have two monsters battle, break charm, kill both, or if it's lopsided I just charmed another gorge hound to go in again and keep doing that until I can kill 5-6 of them and then med.

Yeah, that's the right approach to charming. Don't be afraid to mix it up a bit, though. You can charm one blue into three greens, for example. Or jump in and tank for a while when the pet hits 10%. Treeform gives you great health regen, especially if you have to med anyway. How twinked are you? A good weapon is one of the most impactful items on a druid; something like guard captain's mallet or oakleaf scimitar plus a little worn haste is super helpful. After that I find gearing for hp/ac a better choice than gearing for wis/mana.
I didn't notice any slowdown at 24 in EK. I charmed there from 18-28 and it was super fast the whole way. Good on you for charming on the druid. You can charm the entire way to 60, and I think it's the most engaging, efficient, and skillful way to play a druid.
