One of the quests was also giving a gift box as areward, and was infinitely repeatable. So players were scumming that and exploiting the gift boxes to get lots of black marbles flawless diamonds, wort pots, etc.

Overall, this might be the nail in the coffin for me and p99. The playerbase sucks. Can't even have a holiday event without people throwing tantrums over EXP camps, shithead behavior like monopolizing spawns for weeks at a time, or various other scummery like exploiting a broken quest.
