Smaller flock size: The U.S. turkey flock for 2025 is estimated at 195 million birds, a 3% decrease from 2024. This marks the second consecutive year of shrinking production.

Pipeline turkeys are safe: Most turkeys intended for the Thanksgiving market were already in the supply pipeline by early fall. This means recent outbreaks of avian influenza should have a limited effect on the number of birds available in stores.
