But now here's my favorite part of this whole thing ... his response was (essentially) to accuse me of corrupting the conversation, because I couldn't understand his mad ramblings!
How out of touch with reality do you have to be to spend your time asking questions about what happens to hypothetical corn in a hypothetical future scenario ... and then when someone (politely) asks you "WTF?", you telll them that you see them as a political enemy, who is just pretending not to understand your corn fixation (so they can disrupt an oh-so-important Off Topic conversation)!

Yeah I legitimately think he has some degree of autism or some other disorder. Not intending that as an insult, he just operates that way.
