Two years wouldn't even get us through the full
timeline (it would take us from March '99 to March '01 ... but P99 goes up to October '01). Plus, even stopping in October would be too soon, because no one would have time to play the character they leveled in Stonebrunt, to win the goblin rolls for a SWC, or to farm the revamped Chardok.
Really, something like three years is the perfect server length, and such a length would also be classic: on live it's not like people just stopped doing classic/Kunark/Velious content the moment Luclin dropped. Classic content was enjoyed
long after Luclin dropped.
BTW, the people making P99 have a similar opinion (emphasis added):
