I've been ripped off by every single person I've trusted with my account in every MMO. Special exception: Eisley. I trust the one who has mine atm more than most, but it's been a troubling trend. My best guess? Tribalism, we are nice to the people we know/like. However, we are also quick to "other" someone that is outside our proverbial "tribe". You add in taking the path of least resistance is the most likely path for any living thing and being nice and considerate is a lot harder than being an asshole sociopath. Sprinkle in some online anonymity, and it's a recipe for people who are social rejects to come together to make the 'normies' miserable. A game like EQ just really makes these things easily come together to make a toxic landscape if not moderated heavily.
