Aldi in the UK for years only provided trolleys (or "carts" as you call them), you had to decide if you needed one and brought a coin for it or whether you could gather shit in your arms tactically. I haven't been to one for ages but I hear some or all stores now have baskets for people who only want a few things and don't want to be dropping shit everywhere
