At first when I heard this I was thinking “ok that’s rude but if he’s trying to close a few minutes early to clean, that’s understandable”
But it was apparently 45 minutes early. As someone who is in the gym all the way up until close in the evenings, I would also have a big problem with this
When I used to work retail we had a “recovery” time to get the store completely back in order before we were allowed to leave. We had to work around the customers still in the store. We couldn’t just close the store down and kick everyone else out just to make our clean up time slightly easier

I think planet fitness is the cheapest gym there is so I don't see fighting with with staff over it as being warranted.
If you want premium service, pay for a premium gym.
