Alien hand is not reflexes. Most reflexes are relatively simple algorithmic nervous responses processed almost entirely in the spinal cord.
Rather, it is a collection of motor patterns. We have many complex motor patterns that have the ability to be almost entirely autonomous, things like brushing your teeth or your hair, manipulating a steering wheel, wiping your ass. You don't really think about the movements involved, the position and motion of your limbs, you just command your body to do it, like pressing a macro.
Damage to specific areas of the brain can remove executive (conscious) control over these motor patterns, as we see with alien hand. I think the more interesting phenomenon is complete severance of the corpus callosum, connecting the left and right hemispheres, resulting in a human body where the left hand and right hand can be doing two completely different tasks with no awareness of what the other is doing, like two individuals living in one body.
Of course once you start digging into any possible reason it would be this way you realize, it doesn't make any fucking sense, because it relies on projecting human thoughts and motivations onto the Godhead, namely that something is missing from God that motivates him to partake in this. That 75 years of dreams of total pleasure, or whatever extradimensional transtemporal existence lies outside this reality, somehow has something so bereft about it, so distasteful, that inventing a reality where children get their eyeballs eaten by worms was a worthy endeavor. I'll never understand. Cool that me and the Mexican Cartel-guy peeling my face off while I look in the mirror are fundamentally the same, though.
Maybe this is the hardcore solo self-found reality and it earns our souls mad street cred, or something

Awesome post! Thanks a bunch for the correction about alien hand syndrome. Spot on. I oversimplified.
Yeah I feel you about the G-d head and all that. I don't know what to say there really. Just that this is the way it is. This is us, all of us, the world, universe, what have you.
I'll leave this:

People in this world exist via collective consent. Many would not exist alone. Or without ancestors or communities supporting them and building the world and systems in which people inhabit and are enabled by.

We just are collectively very immature and selfish. I believe ego is partly responsible for this. With less ego we'd care more about the others.
There's room for the I. The me. The self. It's convenient. Useful. I just always question it when one of the people chattering away in my head brings it up. Try to rephrase it.
In the end. All of that human face peeling is going to be temporary. It will not last forever. Conversly there is great good and caring going on simultaneously in the world self. People helping others get back on their feat. Running good business that gives back to the community. Giving uplifting and helpful messages to bring people away from suffering and hate.
I personally tend to think of the face peeling stuff as the Satan self. Demonic. People who've lost their souls. Completely possessed by evil. Hatred. Fear. Anger. Unable to feel or even reason compassion anymore. In some small ways the entire human spirit is responsible for that. We have not figured out how to help these people or at least keep them from doing more soul damage.
I ramble. I digress.
It is way more complex than all that. More complicated then the I, me.
I was a face peeling monster once inside. Now thanks to others influence, and guidance, including G-d's, and Buddha,
I and we in turn suffer much less.
