4-6 backpacks is fine early on. Later, buy or camp shralok packs. Then there's bags in Lower Guk and Sol B that you can camp in your 40s.

If you find yourself looting a bunch of Giant items that don't fit in backpacks, then maybe buy a sewing kit.
