My idea back when i cared was "delayed random fte" ie when a mob is first aggrod, a very short timer starts, say 600ms (less than 1 second), and when the timer ends, of the list of everyone that ended up on the mobs hate list during that timer, one name is chosen at random and given the yellowtext FTE, which must be respected like a real FTE.
That way guilds have to compete on a competitive pace for a mob, running a competitive raceline if its a race etc, and at a competitive logistical level of having an active raid force for that time of engagement to kill it, but the victory isn't determined by who has the fastest ping, who spent 200 hours metagame practicing in a test server for a non-eq mechanic (racing) to win every race by 50ms, or who is just plain scripting.
Detoxx called it the dumbest idea he'd heard in the history of these forums, so I thought i was on the right track.
