I think there is a chance it was like a "FUCK YOU GUYS I HATE YOU BOTH" that the pilot may have done a like mass suicide thing... maybe.
But I tend to believe Mick West when he comes out with a theory. I have to guess, that if you were trying to fly behind the plane that he accidentally mistook for the one he was meant to avoid, that turn would have been natural to get behind the oncoming planes forward path.
This sounds totally like a optical mistake... but idk how they avoid it the other 99 million times they fly through each other like spaghetti at airports:
